PARIS is the perfect city to sketch. From its sprawling skyline, small cafes and arrondissements to iconic buildings including Notre Dame Cathedral, the Paris Opera House, Sacre Couer and the Centre Pompidou, it is a city full of eclectic architecture that demands to be captured on the page. Sketching isn’t about perfection, so even if your skills are less than amazing (or if you’re not actually in Paris right now) keep a 2B pencil and a notebook on hand and have a go. Le Journal has singled out a couple of intriguing talents to inspire you.
Jenni Sparks was commissioned to illustrate a map of Paris and the results are incredible. Teaming with details, Sparks has hand-drawn the main sites along with thousands of intricate details. The London-based artist captures the mysterious heart of the city by visually reinventing it.

Urban Sketchers Paris is a group of people who meet regularly (and welcome visitors) to Sketch Crawls around Paris. They let their drawings tell the “story of our surroundings”, catching a moment in time from direct observation. Inclusive and encouraging, the artists share their work online and help anyone who has trouble putting pencil to paper.
