    Christine is the Queen

By Vincent Hanon 09 November 2015
BEFORE  her international success, the electro-pop sensation Christine and the Queens was already on the 2014 ‘So French So Chic’ compilation. Two years later, the band is back with the song ‘Paradis perdus’, where Christine and the Queens sampled the French artist Christophe and Kanye West’s ‘Heartless’.”The debut album by Christine and the Queens, ‘Chaleur Humaine’ (‘Human Heat’), propelled the band to the top of the charts and filled stadiums all over France.

Dressed in her signature masculine suit, the androgynous 26 year-old, Heloïse Letissier, who performs as Christine, describes the music as freak pop, and identifies herself as a pansexual who deals with the subject of gender theory.

Sometimes reminiscent of Kate Bush and Björk, her shows are close to the pantomime of Pina Bausch with touches of Michael Jackson.

Heloïse as Christine is an incredible dancer and a fearless performer, who develops an intense universe full of electro-transcendent melodies, with a gravelly voice and a hypnotic visual aesthetic.

Not surprisingly Madonna has recently collaborated with Christine and The Queens’ video directors JACK.
