    So Foodie So Chic

By Rohan Trollope 19 September 2018

From crêpes and calamari to charcuterie and champagne, your perfect summer picnic menu is sorted.

The curators of So Frenchy are well known for their fine taste in music – with this year’s all femme line-up featuring Camille, Yelle Club Party, Clara Luciani, Cléa Vincent and Nadeah. However the annual one-day festival is just as popular for its fine taste in food, dedicated to bringing together the best of French and French-friendly local producers and provedores in one exquisite setting.

In Melbourne, the famed fromagerie Milk The Cow will be serving cheese boxes of sample-sized delights, alongside baked treats from the boulangerie Gontran Cherrier and gourmet-dishes-to-go from L’Hotel Gitan. As a special one-off collab, Popstick is creating ice-cream tacos featuring the tricolour of red, white and blue.

Meanwhile in Sydney, the popular French bistro Le Village will be joining the party while Sacre Bleu will be flinging camembert burgers. Black Star Pastry will be serving French-themed versions of their Ginger Ninjas and their perfect-for-a-summers-day strawberry-watermelon cake. The city’s most Instagrammed dessert just got better.

And not to be outdone in Adelaide, the culinary spotlight for the festival this year is on fusion cooking, from Cliché (try the French-Vietnamese style crispy pork belly baguette) to Le Souk with its mouth-watering French-Algerian flavours.

Of course, if you prefer to have your spread taken care of in advance, there are hampers ready to be ordered from Ed Dixon Food Design in Melbourne, Simmone Logue in Sydney and Brown and Co in Adelaide. Think baguettes, nicoise salads, tarts and eclairs. There are also dedicated charcuterie and cheese selections on offer, as well as delicieux gluten-free and kids hampers.

As always, the perfect complement to raclette, oysters and other gallic fare is fine wine, beer, bubbles – and once again So Frenchy has you sorted. The bar will be pouring Provence-style rose, crisp whites, light reds, blanc de blanc, Kronenbourg beer, Cointreau fizz cocktails and plenty of other tipples to imbibe at your leisure.

If all of this sounds too sophisticated for a family day out, remember that So Frenchy caters for all ages. Children under 12 are free, and the day includes face painting, lawn games like pétanque, special entertainment and, as already mentioned, lashings of ice cream. (It turns out kids love it as much as grown-ups.)

So consider So Frenchy So Chic the ultimate in French degustation dining, with the added benefit of superb music, a spectacular setting, and a welcoming spirit of joie de vivre for all.

Drink it all in with us once more, mes amis.
